Rasashastra and Bhaishajyakalpana Department

Rasa Shastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana is the Ayurvedic pharmaceutical science — the art and science of preparing medicines. Rasa Shastra deals with the purification (Shodhana), incineration (Marana), and formulation of minerals, metals, gems, and mercury-based preparations known as Rasa Aushadhis or Khanija Dravyas. Bhaishajya Kalpana covers the preparation of all classical Ayurvedic dosage forms.

The department prepares an extensive range of Ayurvedic formulations following the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India (API) standards, including: Kwatha (decoctions), Churna (powders), Vati & Gutika (tablets), Avaleha (electuaries), Asava & Arishta (fermented preparations), Taila (medicated oils), Ghrita (medicated ghee), Lepa (topical applications), and Kupipakwa Rasayana (Kajjali, Makaradhwaja).

The department has a fully equipped pharmaceutical laboratory with traditional equipment (Khalva Yantra, Dola Yantra, Puta system), a fermentation unit, a distillation unit for Arka preparation, and a quality control analytical laboratory. Students gain hands-on experience in every step of Ayurvedic drug manufacturing — from raw material authentication to final product quality testing.
